Pope on a Plate
Did you see the news last night? They had the Pope on a plate and they were passing him around! Amazing. And I thought typical funeral viewings were macabre! The Catholic church is making quite a spectacle of itself these days. And I love the rewriting of history. It turns out that the pope was responsible for the downfall of the soviet union -- not Ronald Reagan -- and certainly not what some enlightened would call the inevitable failure of a corrupt system (for which we may in turn be headed).
I think the Pope (John Paul II) was horrible. While he may have been okay in the first half of his reign, he's gone downhill in the last ten or fifteen years. I've never been impressed by this pope or even the idea of a pope in general.
I don't think he came out strong enough against the Iraq war. I think that since the Iraq war began, he colluded with and campaigned for Bush to win his second term. I think he has moved the church sharply towards fundamentalism. He has stated that fighting gay marriage is one of the church's primary goals, thereby helping to foster a worldwide attitude of separate-and-unequal-and-damned-to-hell towards people who are different. He encourages abstinence, which study after study shows doesn't work and that teenagers who believe in abstinence get as many or more STD's. He doesn't believe in birth control, which is something this dangerously overpopulated planet needs. He doesn't believe in stem cell research, the results of which could be used to CURE people of horrible diseases.
And yet he apparently believes that pedophilia is not so bad... Under his reign, a priest can be convicted of molestation once and not be dismissed. And even the 'merican priests wanted a no-tolerance policy.
He got involved in the Terri Shiavo case -- which he should not have done -- again allying himself with the ultra far right.
Anyway, I could go on and on.
I do not like the pope.
I do not like him on a rope.
I do not like him as a soap.
I do not like him on a stick.
I do not like him; he is a d1ck.
Am I the next Dr. Seuss or what?
